(Q) Do psychologists prescribe medications?
(A) In other states yes, but not in Texas currently.

(Q) Is there a difference between a psychologist and a licensed psychologist?
(A) Yes indeed. Several therapists use the term psychologist.  However, ask them if he/she is a licensed psycholigst for clarification.

(Q) What are the qualifications of a licensed psychologist?
(A) Doctorate degree in psychology, 1-2 years post-doctorate experience, 2 written and 1 oral examinations, other requirements as determined by licensing board. Please refer to Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) for more information.

(Q) What is unique about seeing a licensed psychologist over other mental health professionals (e.g. counselors, social workers, psychiatrists).
(A) Many things and most importantly skill and training. Only licensed psychologists can provide projective testing, and insurance companies will only reimburse licensed psychologists for any form of psychological assessment.
